First off what everyone needs to understand about a sniper is that he is the weapon. His rifle and pistol are not the weapons, they are but tools that he utilizes to accomplish his mission. The sniper properly executed is possibly the greatest real weapon that you can have on your team. That being said, to be an effective sniper you most properly utilize all of your abilities. What gear a good sniper should have?
-A quality sniper gun, modified to the best effective use with my recommendation of .28 BBs or higher.
>>>> You most modify your gun to utilize the best in range and accuracy. Range means nothing without accuracy, but accuracy means nothing if you can't manage the proper range.
-A quality dependable semi/full automatic pistol
>>>> Dependable means the BBs fly straight with good range for close combat. But If you only expect to use it at 20 feet distance, train at twice that. If you expect 50 feet, train at 100.
>>>> Some people think they can just get a second rate pistol and save money, but remember that your "life" might one day depend on this pistol.
-An adaptable ghillie suit.
>>>> Don't just buy a ghillie suit and assume it makes you a sniper. You should be able to use it and adapt it to your environment. Remember, a sniper doesn't always run. He stealthily makes his way to the best vantage point to take his enemy.
Also always remember to carry with you a canteen, extra BBs, extra mags, proper cleaning cloths for your scope, and tools for your gun.
There are also several tricks you can utilize that might help you as a sniper. Fear tactics. There are several companies that make claymore mines that can be set up for ambush, you can also buy land mines that you can buy in the ground. Gather a couple of these and properly use them so that you can safely handle overwhelming odds. Because even with a spotter, you will most likely be facing a lot more men than you currently have with you. Unless you purposely always make it a habit to return to your team before engaging an enemy, in which case you are not a very useful sniper. Although you should know when to return to your team, and when not take action. Also consider grenades, they may not be the most effective, but they can clear a room before they explode, and a sniper should be able to think of a hundred uses for every weapon he or she has.
How to use Grenades Effectively
Many people who purchase grenades think they can use them to simply kill a group of players. But for a sniper this must be more so. You should conserve your grenades for when you are in trouble and need to cause distractions, as well, a sniper should carry with him at least two claymore mines. You should be able to plant these mines effectively in order to cover your current sniper nest and prevent it from being overrun. Claymores should be in sight of your nest, and you should never forget which remote goes to which claymore.
Land Mines, of which you should also have at least two, should be planted further from the nest to thin the ranks of the enemy and instill fear within their ranks.
While it is ok for a support gunner or a rifleman to use grenades more carelessly, a sniper has to think outside of the box.
